Gold finger ring with orange garnet intaglio. Roman, 3rd-4th centuries AD. An ornate filigree band with four heart-shaped volutes joining at a Hercules knot. Thick, granulated bezel set with ovoid orange garnet gemstone engraved with an eagle, holding wreath in beak, perched on an altar. Interior diameter: 20mm; weight: 9.19g. Intact. A choice and delicately-rendered specimen.
