The unveiling ceremony took place on September 8th, 1862, attended by Alexander II, the future Alexander III and other members of the Imperial House. The monument was designed by Victor Hartmann and Mikhail Mikeshin, and was worked on by a number of sculptors. In shape it resembles a bell crowned by the personification of Orthodoxy, all surrounded by a number of separate statues and tableaus. It cost a total of 400,000 roubles. (300 - 400 GBP)
