SASANIAN KINGDOM. Ardashir I (AD 223/4-240). AR drachm (27mm, 4.35 gm, 3h). Choice AU. Mint B ("Hamadam"), phase 3, ca. AD 233/4-238/9. Draped and diademed bust of Ardashir I right, hair gathered into large ball (korymbos) at top of head / Fire altar tied with diadems, pellets to lower left and right. Sunrise 709 (this coin). Göbl type V/2. SNS type VII(4a)/3b(2b). Rare. Perfectly struck from dies of excellent style in sound metal and nicely centered.From the Sunrise Collection; ex Peus 368 (25-28 April 2001), lot 369.
