Valentinian II (AD 375-392). AV solidus (21mm, 4.41 gm, 11h). NGC Choice MS 5/5 - 5/5. Thessalonica, AD 388-393. D N VALENTINI-ANVS P F AVG, pearl-diademed, draped, and cuirassed bust right, bust seen from front / CONCORDI-A AVGGG, Constantinopolis, helmeted with head right, seated facing on throne ornamented with lion heads, holding scepter in right hand and and globe in left; right foot on eagle-headed ship's prow, COMOB in exergue. RIC IX 64(a) (R4). Exceedingly rare, with no other examples offered in major auctions for more than a decade. Sharply struck and lustrous.
