Charles IV silver Proclamation Medal 1789 VF Details (Plugged) NGC, Medina-241. 21.70gm. Evenly patinated and with a scattering of surface marks, this interesting proclamation features the bust of Charles IV which was utilized at the Potosi Mint starting in 1791, an obverse legend ending in a SAL (monogram for Salta), and a pictorial reverse which depicts a soldier armed with sword and shield. The holder indicates that this medal has been plugged, although no obvious evidence exists to confirm that. While there is some dark staining at 12:00, likely from a previous mount removal, if that area has been plugged, the re-engraving was done masterfully. Rare type with only three pieces known.
Estimate: 2000-3000 USD
