Edward VII gold Specimen Sovereign 1909-C SP65 PCGS, Ottawa mint, KM14. Showcasing a magnificent strike, with brilliant golden color and only the faintest marks on the obverse to mar the otherwise pristine surfaces. This date is extremely rare in Gem Mint State, and as a Specimen, certainly no more than a small handful can exist. In fact, we've offered the only two certified examples, with the present example, the finest of the two, having previously sold in our April 2014 CICF auction for $30,550. Prior to that, the coin was sold as part of the Bentley Collection of Milled Gold Sovereigns by Baldwin's as a "Satin Finish Specimen" and its provenance was traced to 1992 when it was sold by well-known Canadian dealer Randy Weir. That this coin is appearing back on the market so shortly after its last appearance can certainly be considered fortuitous for the specialist, as rarities of this magnitude have a tendency to "disappear" from the market. For the impassioned collector of Canadian coinage, it would be wise to not let the opportunity slip away yet again. From the Schroeder Collection of Canadian Coins
