Newfoundland. Victoria gold 2 Dollars 1870 MS63 PCGS, London mint, KM5, Charlton NF-D2; No Dot after Newfoundland. Rarely seen in this Select (MS63) grade, and essentially non-existent as a near-Gem (MS64), with only a single example having made that grade at PCGS and NGC combined. That said, this piece showcases a rather high-end appearance for the grade, with obverse surfaces that are satiny, essentially mark-free and almost surely would meet near-Gem qualifications if judged individually. The reverse, with sporadic additions of apricot patina in the centers, holds a touch of wispy handling, that while minimally invasive to the eye-appeal, defines the grade. In total, a wonderful coin, and one that will surely be highly contested for the right of ownership. From the Schroeder Collection of Canadian Coins

Estimate: 2000-4000 USD
