Chile
Republic 8 Reales 1839 So-IJ MS65 NGC, Santiago mint, KM96.1. One of perhaps only 2 or 3 Gem examples extant of this rare and coveted type, and every bit deserving of its grade, with pinpoint sharp detail through the central condor and arms of Chile motifs on both sides that extends to the surrounding legends. Prooflike gleam in the fields further benefits the appearance, with light golden tone that strengthens to a copper and mauve hue towards the edges imparting a wonderful essence of originality to the surfaces. Without major incidence of contact, this coin undeniably sits above essentially all others seen. An important coin, not only for the specialist in the series, but also the type collector with an affinity for Republic-period Latin American issues. A true museum-worthy coin!Ex.
