Republic 2 Reales 1836 QUITO-GJ AU50 PCGS, KM18. "Republica del Ecuador" legend variety. A scarce issue in any grade and conditionally rare in the certified AU grade, with the present example exhibiting some typical striking incompleteness, but significant original luster remaining in the fields. A difficult coin to value, as our last, most directly comparable offering to this coin was an example cataloged as choice XF-AU that sold for $18,400 in 2009, while more recently an example from the "FP" assayer but of the same date graded AU55 by NGC brought $3,818.75 in our 2013 CICF auction.
