George IV gold Proof 1/2 Sovereign 1821 PR64 Cameo NGC, KM681, S-3802. Obv. Laureate bust of George IV left. Rev. Crowned arms within floral garnish and date around. A Choice Proof. example of this rare one-year type. The strike is flawless, with satiny, mirrored fields and attractive orange-golden toning. Only a few tiny marks are noted. The design of this piece was identical to the 6 Pence, and therefore the issue was quickly withdrawn, as some backroom entrepreneurs had begun to gild the 6 Pences and pass them as 1/2 Sovereigns. From the Law Collection
