British India. Victoria gold Proof Restrike Mohur 1879-(B) PF66 Cameo NGC, Bombay mint, KM496, S&W-6.7. Everything about the appearance suggests this is a very early proof restrike of the issue, likely executed in the late 19th century, with little evidence of die rust visible even upon magnified inspection, refined die polish lines in the mirrored fields that are uniformly vertical and vivid cameo contrast that results from creamy frost on the raised design. The rims are a notable attribute of the majestic piece as well, showing impressive broadness throughout, and framing the centers quite attractively. All this suggests the production was a careful undertaking, distancing it considerably from later issues; that it remains in such a wonderful state, should also be considered nothing short of miraculous.
