Umberto I gold 50 Lire 1888-R MS62 PCGS, Rome mint, KM25, Fr-19, MIR-1097b. Mintage: 2,125. A very scarce denomination and type, only produced for three years with the total mintage for all dates just surpassing 5,000 coins. This happens to be the first example we have offered of this date, with our other four sales of the type being the more available 1884 date. Choice for the grade, this example displays few marks that draw the eye's attention and slight prooflike reflectivity in the fields. An exciting opportunity for the specialist and considering it's non-existent sales history here at Heritage, likely to be a coin that we don't offer again for years to come.
Estimate: 7000-9000 USD
