Meiji gold 20 Yen Year 3 (1870) AU55 NGC, Osaka mint, KM-Y13, JNDA 01-1, JV-L1. An exceptional piece, and as far as rarity is concerned, the first and only accessible date from this fleeting series. Both sides contain an equal amount of amber color that has gathered around the raised elements, while the satin-sheathed planchet beams with ample flash. Mild wear is most visible across the central reverse design; however, in terms of handling, this selection has managed to escape any real post-strike imperfections other than the occasional wisp. Additionally, an intriguing die crack in the obverse legend serves as a future pedigree identifer. A significant issue among Meiji gold issues, this current offering is worthy of being the centerpiece of its next collection.
