Ferdinand VII silver "University of Mexico City Literary Award" Medal 1809-Mo MS61 PCGS, Mexico City mint, Grove-F-38a, Medina-320; Herrera-34 48mm. By J. M. Guerrero. Issued as a literary contest award by the University of Mexico City, and collected alongside Ferdinand's Proclamation issues of 1808. As an issue, very rare in silver, with bronze examples seen from time to time, but this specimen being the only silver one we've seen offered in many years. Especially desirable for the quality engraving that is among the finest of the era, with an ultra-detailed bust of Ferdinand on the obverse and Minerva in academic surroundings on the reverse. Traces of mauve and golden tone compliment the eye-appeal.
