Augustin I Iturbide gold 8 Escudos 1822 Mo-JM MS62 NGC, Mexico City mint, KM313.1, Onza-1778. The normal legend variety, this example is among the finest known survivors of the date, with reflective gleam in the fields and surfaces that are uncommonly balanced. What's most notable however is the exceptional central strike for the type, with Iturbide's ear and hair detail rising to near completion and the eagle's feathers on the reverse showing much more segmentation than is typical. The first of three exceptional Iturbide 8 escudos in this sale, and similar to the following two, worthy of significant specialist attention.
