Mexico
Maximilian Peso 1866-Go MS62 NGC, Guanajuato mint, KM388. A lightly toned example from this rare mint, seen far less often than its counterparts from Mexico City or San Luis Potosi. A number of tiny handling marks throughout account for the grade while traces of faint weakness and cabinet friction are noted along the peaks of the design. The fields, and indeed the surfaces overall, glow with soft luster underlying speckled argent tone which in areas deepens into a golden russet.
