PCGS has incorrectly listed this medal as Diakov 680.1 on the holder. This piece is actually Diakov-711.2, as previously state in this description. Obv. Uniformed bust of Count Sergei. Semenovich. Uvarov, facing 3/4 left. Rev. Muses, Melpomene and Clio, with winged Glory blowing trumpet in the background, date in exergue. Sharply struck, with prooflike fields. Light hairlines are noted, with minor spotting. Extremely rare, and the only example we have seen. We can reference no other pieces having been sold in recent years. This medal was presented by Count Uvarov's son, beginning in 1863, to a scientist for the analysis of historical works. Included is a Certificate of Authenticity, number 5212, from the State Historical Museum in Moscow, signed by A.S. Shkurko, Expert on Cultural Valuables. The award was later re-newed in 1883, and this medal is the later type.
