Philip V gold 8 Escudos 1701 S-M MS62 NGC, Seville mint, KM259, Cay-9871. "VIII" Denomination; "PHILIPPVS V/II" variety. A very rare variety of this one-year design type that expresses the denomination in Roman numerals with the ordinal number of the previous king, Charles II, visible beneath the V in PHILIPPVS V. It remains intensely lustrous with sharp central details weakening a bit towards the peripheries with some attending porosity and a couple of small planchet flaws around the central cross on the reverse. Highly desirable in this remarkable state of preservation and surely destined for an advanced cabinet.
