Republic "Montevideo Siege" Peso 1844 AU58 NGC, Montevideo mint, KM5. Medal Alignment. A rare issue with total mintage of only 1,500 pieces. An extremely popular one-year Latin issue that is infrequently seen at the Mint State grade, and is even rarer when struck in the atypical medallic die alignment. Struck at the reopened Casa de Moneda in Montevideo after the long civil war and city siege by General Oribo. This example is sharply defined, with gunmetal patina and blue highlights. Minor flan flaws are noted on the reverse.
Estimate: 1500-2000 USD
