KOREA. Order of the Eight Trigrams, Fifth Class, ND (Instituted 1901). EXTREMELY FINE.
Barac-39; Peterson-232. Silver, gilt silver, and enamels. The medal is formed from a six-rayed tri-pointed star, each ray blue with white borders, emanating from a central silver medalion with the fifth trigram - representing wind or wood - in red enamel. The reverse in plain silver with four central incuse characters. The reverse is illustrated in Peterson with a line drawing, but the upper left character on this medal is the Seal script "5", not the modern "5" character he illustrates in the drawing. Original pale blue and red trifold ribbon with clip on reverse. An interesting and rather crude appearing piece, no doubt of local manufacture, with inferior quality enameling and the silver parts of the central medallion exhibiting rather primitive appearing chasing. Except for one small surface flake on the top ray, the enamels are complete and sound. There is also a bit of dirt or dark staining on each of the rays. Housed in a fitted wood and cloth hinged case that is somewhat worn and missing the clasp. EXTREMELY FINE.
Estimate: $500.00- $700.00
