THAILAND. Baht Essai, RS 127 (1908). PCGS SP-63 Secure Holder.
KM-E1; VG-1662; Krisadaolarn/Mihailovs-F55. Engraved by Henri-Auguste Patey. The uniformed portrait left of Rama V or Erawan series is ranked as one of the classic rarities for machine struck Thai coinage. This series was ordered to be struck at the Paris Mint by Rama V during his trip to Europe with the intention of producing the entire series for circulation. However, Rama V died before the entirety of the plan could be put into action. Only the VERY RARE Baht from this series was produced for actual circulation. Although the circulation Baht has an official mintage of 1,037,000 pieces, it is clear that most of that was not released for circulation and instead melted down. This piece, clearly marked "ESSAI" on the reverse, should be considered a pattern for one of the last issues of Rama V. Essential to any advanced collection of Thai coinage. Sharply struck, brilliant and exceptionally attractive. PCGS SP-63 Secure Holder.

Estimate: $9000.00- $12000.00
