Provenance - Together with Anzac Commemorative Medallion 1915, issued 1967, in bronze (50x75mm) (C.1915/3), engraved, C.M.Riches. Charles Murdoch Riches, labourer, age 22, born at Rupanyup, Vic; Enl.23Sep1914 at Deans Marsh, Vic, stated previous service with Pennyroyal Rifle Club; Emb.25Feb1915 with 3LH Bde HQ; to Gallipoli 16May1915; To hospital with influenza 15Jun1915; To L/Cpl (Police) 25Oct1915 and return to Gallipoli 25Oct1915; Cpl 25Nov1915; Tfr to ANZAC HQs (M.M.P) 06Dec1915; to hospital 30Oct1916 with myalgia (mild); RTA 08Mar1917; Disemb.25Apr1917; Disch.02Jun1917 Medically Unfit with chronic rheumatism; married Miss Florrie White at pennyroyal local church on 24Sep1919. On his return from active service, a welcome home reception was held for him at the Deans Marsh Hall on Wednesday 9 may 1917. On Saturday 5 July 1919 C.Riches represented Pennyroyal Rifle Club in a competition against a team from Gerangamete. He top scored for his team with a score of 38 out of a possible 40. However, based on the overall team scores, Gerangamete won.
