Italy, Lucania, Velia, (c.280 B.C.), silver nomos or stater, (7.36 g), Caduceus-Fulmen group, obv. helmeted head of Athena left, helmet decorated with griffin,F on neck guard, AP monogram behind neck guard, rev. lion standing right, kerykeion with fillet above, (cf.S.460, Williams 532 (O267/R372), HN Italy 1316). Extremely fine, attractively toned, with underlying lustre. Provenance - Ex Terry Naughton Collection, previously CNG (Classical Numismatics Group) Mail bid Sale 102, May 18, 2016 (lot 71), with CNG ticket, previously from the Allan Smith, M.D. Collection and the Harlan Berk inventory cc64029 (May 2009).
