Macedon, Kingdom of, Antigonos Gonatas, silver tetradrachm, (277-239 B.C.), (16.87 g), obv. Pan's head to left, with pedium on shoulder, all within Macedonian shield, rev. Athena Alkidemos advancing to left, with thunderbolt and shield, Macedonian helmet in field to left, HL monogram to right, to right BASILEWS, to left ANTIGONOU, (S.6783, SNG Greece II (Alpha Bank) 986, SNG Cop 1199, Mathiesen ANS MN 26 [1981] p.111 [for monogram], Pl.21 36). Surface scratches on reverse, otherwise very fine and scarce. Provenance - Ex Noble Numismatics Sale 111 (lot 4499), Decades Collection, previously from Noble Numismatics Sale 87 (lot 4216) and from Astarte, Lugano Auction Sale XI, Dec. 12-3, 2002 (Lot 327).
