Cilician Kingdom, Tarkondimotos I, (39-31 B.C.), issued at Hieropolis-Kastabala mint, AE 21, (7.15 g), obv. Tarkondimotos head right, wearing diadem, circle of dots, rev. Zeus enthroned left holding Nike & sceptre, [BA]SILEWS behind, [T]APKONDIMO/TOY before, FILANTWNIO[U] in exergue, (S.5682, RPC 3871, McClean 9135 (Pl.330, 11 p.304), BMC 1, (p.237), SNG Levante 1258, Lindgren 1656). Dark green patination, good very fine and rare. Provenance - Ex Dr Adrian Carr Collection and purchased from Mediterranean Coins in 2002. Tarkondimotos I was made Dynast by Pompey and king by Mark Antony. Tarkondimotos died at the battle of Actium (2 September 31 BC) fighting for Mark Antony.
