Egypt, Alexandria, Hadrian, (A.D. 117-138), billon tetradrachm, 24mm, (14.30 g), dated RY 22 = A.D. 137-8, obv. around AVT KAIC TPA ADPIANOC CEB, laureate head to right of Hadrian, rev. P R ONOIA, Pronoia standing left, holding phoenix and sceptre, in field to left KB/L, (S.3747, Koln 1243 var. (bust with slight drapery, arrangement of rev. legend), Dattari 1450, BMC 598, Milne 1562). Good very fine a well struck coin with attractive surfaces. Provenance - Ex Terry Naughton Collection and previously CNG (Classical Numismatics Group) coin shop, with CNG ticket, previously from the Robert O. Ebert Collection. Pronoia ('foresight') was an Oceanid nymph and wife of the Titan Prometheus, who was sentenced to eternal torture for stealing fire from the Olympian gods for use by humans.
