Three Cent Silver
1869 3CS MS64 PCGS. The production of just 4,500 three cent silver circulation strikes in 1869 continued the trend of small mintages that started in 1867 and ended with a final proof-only mintage in 1873. Even those few coins were, to a great extent, melted in 1873. This near-Gem piece survived with rich, iridescent toning on both sides in shades of aquamarine, amber-gold, and violet. A few small marks and light abrasions are visible, yet the eye appeal of this scarce, Choice Uncirculated piece is great. Population: 16 in 64, 12 finer (2/17).
