Proof Three Cent Nickels
1871 3CN PR67 PCGS. The exact total of three cent nickel proofs produced in 1871 went undocumented, as was the policy for minor coinage at the time, but it is believed 960 or more specimens were struck. The 1871 is subject to ever-strong date pressure given the rarity of high-grade circulation strikes. This PR67 example is the finest PCGS example we have offered and one of only two such coins at that service. The surfaces are brilliant and partly contrasted, though not enough to warrant a formal designation. A couple of lint marks occur above Liberty's head. Population: 2 in 67, 0 finer (2/17).
