1939 5C Reverse of 1938 PR68 NGC. The wavy steps on Monticello distinguish the Reverse of 1938 from the Reverse of 1940, and while the distinction is meaningful, the vast majority of proofs are the Reverse of 1938. There is no Reverse of 1939 per se. This Reverse of 1938 example is a seemingly unimprovable, glittering Superb Gem. Intensely reflective surfaces surround smooth and sharply struck motifs. A hint of lemon-yellow at the rims does not intrude on the brilliant, fathomlessly deep-mirrored fields that are optically concave in relation to the forceful central devices. Census: 10 in 68 (2 in 68★), 0 finer (3/17).
