Proof Seated Dimes
1880 10C F-101, R.3, PR67 PCGS. The date placement and a die defect on the M in DIME distinguish Fortin-101 from the other 1880 proof die pair (Fortin-102). Orange and lavender tones paint the obverse, while the reverse displays predominantly steel-blue and green hues. Devoid of all but a few microscopic flecks. In this lofty grade, circulation strikes and proofs are roughly equally available. However, collector demand for high-grade examples from the low-mintage business-strike issue of only 36,000 pieces, places pressure on carefully preserved proofs such as this Superb Gem.
