Seated Quarters
1871-CC 25C -- Cleaning -- PCGS Genuine. Good Details. Briggs 1-A. Fewer than 100 examples of the 1871-CC quarter are believed extant. Although 10,890 coins were struck, nearly all were thrust into circulation. Collectors had little interest in mintmarks at the time, and so few examples were saved for numismatic purposes. Only 18 years after the issue was put out, August G. Heaton described the 1871-CC as "excessively rare." The obverse shows deep steel-gray patina, while the reverse is brighter. Both sides exhibit faint, wispy lines from cleaning, but the date, mintmark, and major design elements are clear.
