Proof Seated Quarters
1857 25C PR63 PCGS. Briggs 7-G. The mintage of the 1857 proof quarter was not recorded, although the survival rate is estimated to be fewer than 100 coins, according to PCGS. The scarcity of auction appearances substantiates this assessment. The present coin is boldly struck with deeply reflective fields and bold sea-green and golden-gray toning. Any grade-limiting hairlines are well-hidden by the rich patina. A loupe reveals a few mint-made file lines on Liberty's breasts and left (facing) arm, not fully struck out of the planchet by the dies. Population: 12 in 63 (1 in 63+), 13 finer (2/17).
