Bust Half Dollars
1827 50C Curl Base 2, O-146, R.2, MS62 PCGS. Only two varieties have the Curl Base 2 among 49 die pairs identified for the 1827 halves -- the O-146 and O-147. This sharp and lustrous O-146 example displays satin-smooth surfaces and sharply struck devices. The stars, scroll, and eagle's talons are crisply struck (not always the case for the die pair), while a few areas of deep, bluish-gray toning prevail among the reverse legend. The overall toning is luminescent champagne-gold with ivory highlights. Population (Curl Base 2 varieties): 6 in 62, 10 finer (2/17).
