Proof Barber Half Dollars
1895 50C PR65 Cameo NGC. Although its mintage is the same as the highly-sought 1895 proof dollar (880 pieces), the half dollar is more readily available and much less expensive. This brilliant-white example displays strong field/device contrast to earn the Cameo designation, seldom awarded for the issue. A delightful Gem, the silver-mirrored fields are deeply reflective with just a few wispy, widely scattered lines. The strike on the raised motifs is absolutely full, without any weakness at the shield corner or wing junction. The eagle's leg, talons, and arrow fletchings are razor-sharp. Census: 10 in 65 Cameo, 43 finer (2/17).
