Buffalo Nickels
1924-D 5C MS65+ PCGS. CAC. The profound strike softness with which examples of this issue were typically produced contributes to the scarcity of high-grade survivors. This high-end Gem exhibits a minor degree of weakness on the bison's head and shoulder, as well as on portions of the obverse portrait, though the strike seems above-average for the issue. The Indian's braid, the date, the bison's horn and tail, and the lettering are all sharply defined. Excellent surface preservation confirms this coin's Gem status. Iridescent champagne, lavender, and ice-blue toning encompasses each side, adding to the eye appeal. PCGS has graded just eight examples finer (2/17).
