Barber Dimes
1906-D 10C MS67 PCGS. CAC. This frosty and lustrous 1906-D excels both technically and aesthetically to earn a place among the half-dozen finest examples at both of the major grading services combined. Still, it is one of the unsung condition rarities of the series, perhaps because a healthy 4 million pieces were struck in the first year of producing Barber dimes at the newly opened Denver Mint.
This pristine example is brightly lustrous beneath a dappling of olive, forest-green, and warm-gray patina. The frosted surfaces show virtually no marks whatsoever, and Liberty's cheek is refreshingly clear of blemishes. The reverse is equally well-preserved, while the strike on both sides is sharply rendered. CAC endorsement is important at the Superb Gem level, an award easily won by this exceptional example. Population: 4 in 67 (2 in 67+), 0 finer. CAC: 5 in 67, 0 finer (2/17).
