Bust Half Dollars
1836 50C Lettered Edge, O-110, R.1, MS65 PCGS. The O-110 is impossible to find with a full strike, since the letters RTY are always weak for the variety. Likewise, a few of the star centers are incomplete including star 7, which shows an extra point (or spike) adjacent to the primary outside point. Otherwise, the definition is razor-sharp on this coin. Satinlike surfaces are smooth and supremely lustrous with iridescent toning throughout both sides. Caramel-gold, lavender, and lilac shades vary with the viewing angle. Both the Parsley and Herrman Condition Census listings show a single MS65 followed by a pair of MS64 coins. This Gem is in a new PCGS holder. Population: 18 in 65 (1 in 65+), 6 finer (2/17).
