Barber Half Dollars
1896-S 50C MS66+ NGC. Just a hint of delicate sun-gold toning is seen over the otherwise brilliant surfaces, enriching this fully struck and highly lustrous Premium Gem. The fields are immaculate and the cheek has only faint indications of contact. The 1896-S is a better date in all grades and a major rarity in this lofty condition. When a Mint State '96-S is found, it invariably is high quality, such as seen here. The one variable are striations sometimes encountered (but not here), caused by worn out roller fingers during planchet stock preparation. Census: 6 in 66 (1 in 66+), 0 finer (2/17).
