Walking Liberty Half Dollars
1921 50C MS64+ PCGS. CAC. The Mint concentrated most of its resources on silver dollar production in 1921, and only 246,000 Walking Liberty half dollars were struck at the Philadelphia facility that year. Accordingly, the 1921 is an elusive issue in all grades, although not quite as scarce as its Denver Mint counterpart, which had an even lower mintage. However, the 1921 Philadelphia half dollar was an extremely well-made issue, with uniformly sharp striking details and better luster than the 1921-D. Both issues are sought-after series keys today.
The coin offered here is a Plus-graded Choice example with sharply detailed design elements that show full separation between Liberty's thumb and fingers on the wreath hand. The lightly marked surfaces are blanketed in attractive shades of lavender-gray, russet, and amber toning, with vibrant mint luster underneath. PCGS has graded 64 numerically finer examples (2/17).
