Early Dollars
1797 $1 10x6 Stars, Large Letters, B-3, BB-71, R.2, AU55 PCGS. Bowers Die State III. Deep gunmetal-gray toning encompasses the fields and devices of this desirable Small Eagle dollar. Autumn-brown and forest-green borders complete the toning pattern. The eagle's breast and leg feathers exhibit light wear, but the wings and hair are richly defined and glimmer with luster. Refreshingly devoid of evident abrasions. All three 1797 die varieties have 16 stars, but only Bolender-3 exhibits them in a 10x6 arrangement. At PCGS, the median grade for B-3 is VF30. The present Choice AU example is just outside the Condition Census, but the quality is decidedly superior for the variety.
