1869 $1 MS63 PCGS. OC-1, R.4.. This date is seldom encountered in any Mint State grade, and business strikes in general are far scarcer than the substantial mintage of 423,700 pieces would indicate. This example shows a bold strike on both sides, with gray-gold surfaces that show a bit of field haze, slightly diminishing the luster. Some doubling is evident in the motto. A small bit of struck-in grease, as made, is noted on the lower reverse. Nonetheless, this is an attractive and rare coin. Population: 11 in 63, 10 finer (2/17).
