Morgan Dollars
1895-S $1 S Over Horizontal S, VAM-4, MS64 Deep Mirror Prooflike PCGS. A Top 100 Variety. The PCGS insert does not mention the variety, but this is the S Over Horizontal S VAM-4, popularized by Jeff Oxman and Michael S. Fey in their popular VAM Keys reference. Light caramel-gold toning graces this flashy and nicely struck better date dollar. A small ebony freckle is on the seam of the left (facing) wing. Minor marks on the left obverse field account for the grade. The 1895-S is rare in Deep Mirror Prooflike format, and PCGS has certified only one such piece as VAM-4, at the MS62 level (3/17).
