Classic Quarter Eagles
1839 $2 1/2 AU58 PCGS. Breen-6148, Variety 21, R.3. These are the only known dies for the 1839 Classic Head quarter eagle with a total production of 27,021 coins. Survivors are elusive in high grades, with only 23 Mint State pieces certified by PCGS and NGC combined. Exhibiting satiny yellow surfaces and a trace of high-point rub, this piece offers all the advantages of a Mint State example at a lower market price. Both sides exhibit scattered marks and faint hairlines that are consistent with the grade. Population: 17 in 58, 8 finer (2/17).
