Liberty Quarter Eagles
1841-C $2 1/2 AU58 NGC. Variety 1. "The 1841-C is among the rarest Charlotte quarter eagles. It is especially difficult to locate in higher grades. Its rarity is compounded by the fact that it is a poorly produced issue," according to Doug Winter. It is believed that only four or five examples survive in mint condition. This must have been one of the first of 10,281 quarter eagles struck in Charlotte in 1841. The rims are broad, the motifs needle-sharp, and the fields decidedly semireflective. A handful of wispy marks and a trace of cabinet friction are the only imperfections. A remarkable survivor. Census: 26 in 58 (1 in 58★), 6 finer (2/17).
