Proof Liberty Quarter Eagles
1893 $2 1/2 PR65 Deep Cameo PCGS. The 1893 proof quarter eagle had a moderate mintage for the period of 106 coins, although as little as half of that may survive to present day. PCGS and NGC combined report 81 grading events, although this almost certainly includes a number of resubmissions and crossovers. Since the early 1990s, we have handled only 20 examples of this issue, with just 11 Deep Cameos. The present Gem displays needle-sharp detail and frosty, brilliant devices. The fields are incredibly deeply mirrored and devoid of mentionable marks or hairlines. This is a rare opportunity to acquire a 19th century proof gold issue that is underappreciated at current levels. Population: 6 in 65 (1 in 65+) Deep Cameo, 5 finer (1/17).
