Indian Quarter Eagles
1914 $2 1/2 MS65 PCGS. A semikey date in the series, just 240,000 pieces were struck at the Philadelphia Mint in 1914 -- second lowest mintage in the series, only bested by the 1911-D. Although near-Gem pieces are moderately available, Gems are definitely scarce. This example displays medium-gold coloration with a greenish tinge. The high fields are smooth and attractive, while the reduced relief is sharply rendered. The normally seen abrasions common to this design type are virtually non-existent on this lovely piece. PCGS reports just three numerically finer examples (2/17).
