Liberty Half Eagles
1860-C $5 AU53 PCGS. Variety 1. It is believed 450 of the 14,813 half eagles struck at the North Carolina mint in 1860 survive, mostly in VF and XF condition. Incompleteness on the eagle is the result of an improperly annealed die. This AU53 five dollar gold piece features bold obverse detail and little blending. Reddish-gold surfaces house numerous marks. Population: 11 in 53, 40 finer (2/17).
