1873-CC $5 XF40 PCGS. Variety 2-B. Fewer than 100 1873-CC half eagles are believed to survive from a mintage of only 7,416 pieces. Mint State coins are extremely rare. This XF example displays grade-consistent high-point wear with smooth, problem-free olive-gold surfaces. Eye appeal is outstanding for Carson City half eagle in this grade. Collectors will be hard-pressed to locate another example in this grade with similar eye appeal, let alone better. We rarely have an opportunity to offer a numerically finer example of the 1873-CC five. Extremely Fine is the optimal collecting grade for this issue. Population: 8 in 40, 21 finer (2/17).
