Indian Half Eagles
1913-S $5 MS63 PCGS. The 1913-S is a somewhat overlooked date in high grade, as its mintage of 408,000 pieces and availability in lower grades are deceptive. Most Uncirculated examples are heavily abraded and grade no better than MS61 or MS62. This Select representative is scarce, and finer pieces are rare. The coin is typically struck with weak peripheral definition, although the mintmark is discernible. The central devices show pleasing detail. Satiny straw-gold luster reveals scattered abrasions consistent with the grade, although eye appeal remains pleasing. Population: 52 in 63 (1 in 63+), 18 finer (2/17).
