Liberty Eagles
1839/8 $10 Large Letters AU50 NGC. This is a second-year example of the two-year hair-over-ear type that was first employed for Christian Gobrecht's Liberty Head eagle in 1838. The design was modified part-way through 1839, with the new coins featuring a slightly different portrait and Small Letters. All examples of the 1839 Large Letters ten are exceedingly scarce. This AU representative is expectedly abraded with rich olive-gold coloration. Central definition is bold, but the stars are soft.
